Engine31

Engine31 is a pop-up newsroom – that is, it popped up for the last weekend of the 2013 Humana Festival of New American Plays, during which time 12 national arts journalists (including three USC Annenberg alumni) produced dozens of multimedia stories about the festival. Engine31 asked the question: Would it be possible to bring together some of the best theater critics and reporters in the country for a one-shot collaborative publication online? Given the decimation of theater journalists in this country, could one of our most esteemed festivals still get the coverage it deserved without cost to the journalists' various media outlets? Engine31, funded in part by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and by USC Annenberg, archived their reports and continues to serve the greater public as a record of what happened at Humana that year.
