LAist features new project mapping healthy food in South LA

The LAist featured a new project that maps out healthy food available in South LA.

In taking a few exploratory bike rides and walks through the community, South LA children and teenagers compiled photos and text that documented the map locations, as well as alternate modes of transportation.

Along with the Annenberg Innovation Lab, USC Annenberg Professor Francois Bar developed a platform called ParTour that allowed them to upload the content they gathered directly from their cameras and cellphones.

"The story here is there are a lot of places where we can get healthy food and safe ways to get there if you don't have a car. The idea is to encourage people to look at options that are right there," Bar said.

On Sunday Mar. 3, the map will be released and a bike tour of the featured spots will take place starting at 10 a.m. at Mercado La Paloma, 3655 S. Grand Ave.
