USC Annenberg and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Los Angeles present the annual Kenneth Owler Smith Symposium. This year's topic: Public Relations, Cause Marketing and Corporate Social Responsibility: Doing Good or Driving Deceptions? From PRSA: "CSR and Cause Related Marketing are all the rage these days. Commercial enterprises are desperately seeking new ways to distinguish themselves and their products. At the same time, non-profits and NGO's are facing enormous communications and fund raising challenges. The result: A frenzy of "strategic alliances," some of them built on flimsy strategic and ethical rationales. When are "doing well" and "doing good" truly compatible or incompatible concepts? How can communications professionals make CSR decisions that are strategically, ethically, and legally appropriate? And, how can consumers distinguish between real responsibility and pure hype?" Speakers include Jerry Swerling, USC Annenberg's director of public relations studies; Michael Rouse, Corporate Manager, Philanthropy & Community Affairs, Toyota Motor Sales; Greg Donaldson, National VP, Corporate Communications, American Cancer Society; Maureen Carlson, Principal, Caliber Sales & Marketing; Ed Chansky, Corporate-Philanthropy Attorney, Levett Rockwood P.C., and Dean Ernest J. Wilson III. There is a registration fee for this event. For more information or to register, click here. Registration fees are waived for USC Annenberg students and faculty.
