Annenberg Research Seminar: Mary Ann Von Glinow, Florida International University
Geoffrey Cowan Forum (Annenberg Room 207), 12 p.m.

Join students and faculty for a presentation by Mary Ann Von Glinow, Knight Ridder Eminent Scholar Chair in International Management at Florida International University and an applicant for the Asia (China) faculty position at the School of Communication. Her topic:  "Next-Generation Offshoring and Global Distribution of Work to/from China and India: Implications for Knowledge Sharing, Organizational Practices, and Policy." From Professor Von Glinow: "Although offshoring work to China and India has become standard practice, the scholarly literature on offshoring has largely neglected organizational capabilities that relate to recruiting, developing and retaining talent; coordinating globally-distributed work (mostly innovation activities); and collaborating with external partners. This paper examines the many invisible barriers that exist by looking at key trends including the real or perceived limited supply of science and engineering (S&E) talent in the U.S., the rise of new geographic clusters providing S&E talent abroad, and an emerging global race for this talent. Using examples of companies that have successfully been able to share knowledge to/from China and India, implications for the design of GDW and policy are explored."

Lunch will be served.
