Annenberg Research Seminar: Eszter Hargittai, Northwestern University
ASC 207, 12:00 p.m.

Please join students, faculty, and staff for a presentation by Northwestern University assistant professor Eszter Hargittai. Her topic, "The World is Bumpy: Information Technology and Social Inequality."  From Dr. Hargittai: " The growing diffusion of new technologies influences people's life chances and their ability to participate in social life, and raises questions as to people's ability to appropriate new technologies for their empowerment. I examine empirically the social implications of differential information technology uses with particular focus on the Internet. I argue that large disparities in people's Web use skills have the potential to contribute to inequalities among users rather than alleviate them."  Lunch will be served.
