USC Annenberg and the Greater Los Angeles chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists present a discussion on the challenges and risks of reporting news as it breaks, including the Sago mine tragedy. Guests include journalism school director Michael Parks; Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Lt. Paul Vernon; Frank Baker, assistant Los Angeles bureau chief, Associated Press; Scott Gold, Los Angeles Times national correspondent; Jim Hattendorf, assistant news director for KCBS-TV (Ch. 2) and KCAL-TV (Ch. 9); and Anita Vogel, Fox News Los Angeles correspondent. The discussion will be moderated by Larry Mantle, host of KPCC's Airtalk with Larry Mantle. The panel will be recorded for broadcast on KPCC-FM.
