Preview screening: The Press and Civil Rights
Annenberg Room 331, 2:00 pm
Prof. Flix Gutirrez invites Annenberg students, faculty and friends to a preview showing of a new video on "The Press and the Civil Rights Movement." The 27-minute video shows Black and White press, coverage both local and national, of the often-violent struggles for racial justice in the 1960s. The video was produced by the Newseum, a national news museum, set to open in Washington, D.C. in 2007. Followng the video a discussion on the fight for racial justice will be held with journalism Murray Fromson and Ed Guthman, both of whom were on the scene of the civil rights movement in the south. The video and discussion are part of the course on People of Color and the News Media taught by Professor Flix Gutirrez.
