"China and the Internet:
Technology, Economy, and Society in Transition" will
be held May 30 - 31st, 2003, in USC Davidson
Conference Center. The People's Republic of China is
now home to 59 million Internet users, the world's
second largest online population. While global
Internet market has slowed down, the online community
in the PRC continues to grow in leaps and bounds. The
conference will explore the many issues that arise
from these statistics including China's Internet
diffusion, regulation, policymaking processes,
e-commerce, e-government, online journalism, and
grassroots movements. The conference is jointly
organized by USC Annenberg, Cardozo School of Law at
Yeshiva University, UC Berkeley Graduate School of
Journalism, School of Journalism and Communication at
Peking University and the Stanhope Centre for
Communication Policy Research.
