Digital Media Revolution in the Americas Senior Executive Conference

Cross-sectoral and hemisphere-wide networks will be critical to the success of any digital media strategy of the future. To help build these networks, the Institute of the Americas and the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California have joined forces, and in the Fall of 2001, will offer a unique opportunity to delve into the social, political, regulatory, economic, and technological forces that are shaping the future of digital media throughout the Americas. Content producers, broadcasters, publishers, artists, and providers of broadband, wireless, satellite, digital TV, software, Internet, streaming, and telecommunications technologies and services will come together in this unique forum with leading researchers, regulators, and visionaries to discuss opportunities for collaboration and challenges facing the entire hemisphere. The conference will also focus on opportunities in the U.S. Hispanic market for content providers from around the region. Panels will include moderated, interactive sessions on: the future of streaming media, business models for IP media delivery, regulatory issues affecting cable, broadcast and satellite TV, licensing, digital property rights, and control over distribution. Other panels will focus on the movie industry, the music industry, software and hardware developments. High-level officials from Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Central America, Canada, and the United States will be in attendance. Presentation: Mr. Cowan will be speaking at the private reception and dinner address at7:00 pm on Thursday, November 29. His presentation is titled, "Parallels Between the First and Second Media Revolutions-from the Gutenberg Bible to the Wired.com."
