News Media and Society

The News Media and Society minor is an exciting program that gives USC students an understanding of how the news media work in the United States. The minor explores myths about the media, explains who they are, how they work and what they do right and wrong; it illustrates why the media are important in a democratic society where citizens depend on the free and unfettered flow of information. The program benefits students by giving them an understanding of how media influence their lives on a daily basis.

The News Media and Society minor consists of 24 units.

Core courses:
JOUR 201 History of News in Modern America
COMM 371 Censorship and the Law: From the Press to Cyberspace

Plus 16 upper division (300-499) journalism units approved by an adviser.  See list below for recommendations.
