Glenn King

2023-2024 Cohort

Glenn King is a PhD student at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. His research broadly examines American foreign intervention in the Caribbean and Latin America. He pursues questions relating to the symbiosis between American popular press and the executive branch and the way the former rationalizes various forms of American intervention in the Global South against the backdrop of revolution, natural disaster, and authoritarianism. He is interested in how citizen journalism disrupts exceptionalist assumptions that underlie foreign affairs reporting. At the same time, he takes a sociological approach to shed light on the opportunities and challenges posed by automated journalism.

Prior to joining USC Annenberg, he graduated from the University of the Bahamas with a Bachelor of Education in English language and literature, where he was identified most outstanding in the concentration. He also holds a Master of Arts in Journalism and Creative Media from the University of Alabama. He is passionate about twentieth century world literature and enjoys both creative and polemical writing.
